A&P Takes Fresh Evolution to Next Level; New Store Merges Traditional Virtues, Dramatic Departures
Innovative format debuts in Park Ridge, NJ; offers unique atmosphere, premium quality fresh food 'shops within the store,' top values on full grocery range, and full service Pharmacy and Health Care Center.
PARK RIDGE, NJ - September 27, 2007 - A grocery and fresh food shopping experience like no other awaits area consumers, as The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (A&P) opened its dramatically redesigned Fresh concept prototype here today.
Remodeled to create a unique shopping atmosphere and experience, the new A&P Fresh market at 199 Kinderkamack Road retains the full range of neighborhood food store necessities at value prices, but bears no other resemblance to any conventional supermarket.
The stylishly modernized A&P logo outside hints at what will amaze shoppers inside, beginning with the relaxing elegance of the décor, lighting, furnishings and display fixtures. Shoppers quickly find that once outside the grocery section, they will circulate through a cluster of appealing specialty food shops - featuring the "best of the best" in every food category.
Reinventing the Food Shopping Experience
Eric Claus, A&P President & CEO, said, "In reinventing the food shopping experience for our customers, our goal in Park Ridge was to marry the best elements of innovative American and traditional European food-selling approaches. So in and around our full range of grocery products, we've put together a neighborhood of shops under one roof. These are not just departments - they're fully stocked specialty shops offering the finest fresh foods and complementary products."
The shops - 17 in number and configured in "walking street" style around the market - include:
- Artisan Breads. Aromatically baked in-store in an old world brick oven, a myriad of shapes and flavors are offered fresh all day.
- Tea and Coffee. For over 148 years, A&P has offered the finest tea and coffee from around the world, and the tradition continues.
- Organic and Natural Produce and Meats. All organic items are grown without the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and are guaranteed to be fresh every day. Natural items are minimally processed and manufactured without artificial ingredients or preservatives.
- Pasta. Envision a 12-foot wall of domestic and imported pasta in every conceivable variety. Add a vast array of domestic and imported sauces and olive oils, and "that's Italian."
- Cheese Shop. Literally hundreds of cheese selections from around the world, wet and dry, await shoppers in the A&P Fresh Cheese Shop.
- Chocolates. The most decadent selection of chocolates from every corner of the globe (and it's good for you too).
- Seafood and Sushi. An array of fresh fish and seafood worthy of the most exacting local fishmonger (if you could find one.) Sushi is made to order by an authentic Sushi Chef, under the strictest quality and freshness guidelines, from single servings to gourmet platters for any size party.
- Fresh to Go. A generous selection of chef-prepared entrees and side dishes providing wholesome and delicious meal solutions for families on the go, or for top drawer entertaining without the fuss.
- Deli, Bakery. There's an impressive variety of freshly made salads and deli meats in the enormous deli shop … and a sumptuous array of muffins, rolls, pies, doughnuts, cookies and breads made fresh throughout the day in the nearby bakery shop.
Top Quality A&P Signature Products, Top Value Groceries, And More
Throughout the new Park Ridge A&P Fresh store, shoppers will also discover a selection of fresh products that are sold exclusively at A&P banner stores. In the butcher shop, there's Premium Gold Angus Beef, the only authentic and verified Angus Beef available in North America, and the exceptional and popular 1885 Brand Premium Pork. Restaurant quality and selection also rule in the seafood shop, offering a variety of items delivered fresh daily from the famous Hunts Point Market in nearby New York, as well as organic Scottish salmon, and crab cakes made fresh by store chefs.
For week in, week out needs, the traditional grocery section fills the bill, with the complete range of the leading national brand products, and A&P's own America's Choice line for added value and savings. Speaking of savings, customers will find over 5,000 Red Tag price reductions and weekly specials on popular grocery items every time they shop - adding up the best total grocery value in the market.
Pharmacy next door
Completing the one-stop shop, the A&P Pharmacy and Health Care Center is located directly adjacent to A&P Fresh. In addition to full prescription drug service and clinical counseling, the shop next door carries a wide assortment of health and beauty care products, featuring the most popular national brands and A&P's own Health Pride selections. And by joining A&P's exclusive Live Better Wellness club, shoppers can receive added value discounts on prescriptions and other health-enhancing products featured in both the Pharmacy and the A&P Fresh store.
"We're very proud to open this truly special store, both to best serve our customers in and around Park Ridge, and also as an example of the Fresh thinking that's revolutionizing A&P," said Eric Claus. "Offering the best quality, the best overall value and the most enjoyable experience possible is what the New A&P is about - and we will continue raising the bar in all three criteria as we go forward."
