Palmer Joins A&P from Safeway; Will Head Own Brands Development
MONTVALE, NJ - May 18 - The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company Inc. (A&P)(NYSE:GAP) today announced that Douglas Palmer has joined the Company as Vice President of Own Brands. He will report directly to Rebecca Philbert, Senior Vice President of Merchandising and Supply & Logistics.
Mr. Palmer joins A&P from Safeway (Pleasanton, CA), where as Vice President of Consumer Brands, he led the development of the company's brand rationalization and consolidation initiative, the redesign of its own brand labeling, and the launch of its corporate organic products brand. Under his direction, Safeway's Consumer Brands program garnered numerous packaging and product awards in connection with its 'O Organics,' Safeway Select and Eating Right product lines. An industry veteran with over 20 years of corporate brands experience, he has previously held positions at Ahold USA, Daymon Worldwide, Meijer and Farm Fresh.
Commenting on the appointment, Rebecca Philbert said, "I am delighted that Doug is bringing his outstanding talent and experience to A&P. From past experience, I know that he will elevate our Own Brands development and execution to best-in-class levels, aligned with our exciting store format, merchandising and marketing initiatives."
